About the Practice

In 1985 Dr. Marcelo Hochman graduated from the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio, Texas. He completed his internship in general surgery in 1986 then in 1990 completed his Residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery both at Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California. By 1991 Dr. Hochman had completed his Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at St. Louis University; Washington University, in St. Louis, Missouri as well as a Fellowship in Cleft Lip and Palate/Vascular Birthmarks at the Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Dr. Hochman was certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery in October 2, 1990 and by the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in July 1, 1997. From 1991 until 1999 he served as a Professor of Otolaryngology; Director, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences. He also served at MUSC as a professor in Dermatology, Co-Director of the Craniofacial Team then as the Medical Director of the Department of Otolaryngology. He also spent a year from 1998 to 1999 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences as an Associate Professor with Tenure in the division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Department of Otolarngology-Head and Neck Surgery in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Dr. Hochman has received many awards and honors including the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award in South Carolina, In addition he has won the Rafety Fellow award in Facial Plastic Surgery at Stanford University; the John Orlando Roe Award for the Best Scholarly Paper during his Fellowship by the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery; the Investigator Development Award by the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery; Best Doctor in America for Southeast region in Otolaryngology. He was inducted into the American College of Surgeons as a Fellow; Best Doctor in America for Plastic Surgery, then received the American Medical Association Physician's Recognition award in continuing medical education with commendation for Directed Learning. He has served as a Guest Examiner for the American Board of Otolaryngology for 3 years, and received the J. Floyd Kyser Distinguished Lectureship in Otolaryngology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. From 2001 to present he has served as the Honorary Medical Chairman for the Vascular Birthmark Foundation in Albany, NY receiving the Best Doctor in America in Plastic Surgery. Dr. Hochman also received a service award from the Vascular Birthmark Foundation.

Dr. Hochman was elected to the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery where he served from 1999-2003. He also was elected in 1999 to the Medical Disciplinary Commission where he served 3 terms.

He is a member of the following professional organizations: American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, American Medical Association, South Carolina Medical Association, Charleston County Medical Society, North Carolina/South Carolina Otolaryngology Society, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Inc. as a Fellow, International Society For The Study of Vascular Anomalies as a Senior Member.

Dr. Hochman has been active on the Community Advisory Board for Junior League of Charleston. He is the Founder & Medical Director of the Hemangioma Treatment Foundation which he continues today. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of The Ronald McDonald House, Charleston Concert Association, and with Gibbes Museum of Art.

He has  received many grants and has served as Editorial and Guest Reviewer for many professional associations. Dr. Hochman is also author of numerous books, monographs and Chapters.

In 1999 Marcelo Hochman, MD. established The Facial Surgery Center. In 2003, Dr. Marcelo Hochman created The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation in response to a plea from a family who could not find help for their child. In the few short years since its creation, The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation has enjoyed tremendous success and is increasingly being recognized at the local, national and international level for its work with children. There is no other organization in the world dedicated exclusively to providing charitable treatment to children with vascular birthmarks. In 2008 Dr. Marcelo Hochman won the community service award presented by the Research Committee of the Educational and Research Foundation for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This is presented annually for members who have distinguished themselves by providing and/ or making possible free medical service to the poor in his community.

Dr. Marcelo Hochman has been listed in Best Doctors in America for plastic surgery since 1998 and Best Surgeons in America for plastic surgery since 2002. He was the recipient of the Order of the Palmetto in 2005. He is the only Botox National Educator faculty in South Carolina for plastic surgery and has the largest volume Radiesse practice (plastic surgery) in the Charleston area. He has performed over 400 major facial cosmetic surgeries in 2007 alone.

In 2008 Dr. Hochman's In-Office Operating Room received the distinguished accreditation for 3 years from Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. www.aaahc.org
